LAS VEGAS – Charleston Southern's Hayley McNeill put together a steady 73 (+1) in the final round to grab her first collegiate win at the 2015 Bison at Boulder Creek on Tuesday afternoon at Boulder Creek Golf Club in Las Vegas.
McNeill, who finished the vent at 4-over, edged Southern Utah's Nicole Thomas and Northern Arizona's Sofya Anokhina (+7) by three strokes for CSU's first individual title since last fall, when Shelby Thompson won the Wendy's Invitational at Rivertowne Country Club in Mount Pleasant.
CSU (916) finished the event second in the field of eight, finishing eight strokes back of Northern Arizona (908). Southern Utah was third, followed by Utah Valley and Alabama State to round out the Top 5.
"We're very happy that we improved in each round of the tourney," CSU head coach Matt Cram-Smith said. "The team responded really well from adversity out there today. A huge congrats to Hayley for picking up her first collegiate win. Hopefully we'll keep improving the rest of the spring"
Two other Bucs notched Top 10 finishes to join McNeill. Sophomore Emelie Flink was eighth with a 3-over 75 in her final round, her low round of the tournament. Junior Hannah Barger added her first career Top 10, tying for 10th with a 74 (+2) in the final round.
Junior Shelby Thompson bounced back from a rough Monday with a 75 (+3) in her final round to climb into the Top 20. She tied for 18th.
Junior Bella Johnson also played her best round on Tuesday, putting together a 4-over 76 to finish 30th.
CSU returns to action on Feb. 28 in the Edwin Watts Spring Challenge at Kiawah Island.
