PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. – Sophomore Hayley McNeill fired a 1-under 71 to help Charleston Southern climb three spots in the final round and tie for 11that the Web.com Intercollegiate, which wrapped up on Tuesday at Marsh Landing Country Club.
McNeill had three birdies in CSU's best individual round of the tournament, to go with Top 20 finishes by fellow sophomore Emelie Flink and junior Shelby Thompson. The round of 299 (+11) was the lowest, by three strokes, for CSU at Marsh Landing.
"Today was a much better performance today from the team," CSU Head Coach Matt Cram-Smith said following the win. "We didn't quite finish off some of the rounds how we would've liked, but overall today was a good round to help us move up the leaderboard and gain some momentum for the conference championship next week."
McNeill opened her day with a birdie and had 14 pars in her round. Her only blemish was a double bogey on the par-4 16th, her third hole of the day.
Sophomore Emelie Flink was the Bucs' top finisher, tying for 14th. She had a 75 (+3) on Tuesday and was 5-over for 54 holes. Junior Shelby Thompson added a tie for 19th with a solid 73 (+1) in her final round and was 6-over for the event.
"Hayley really turned things around today and hit the ball much better which was great for her confidence," Cram-Smith added. "Emelie and Shelby were really solid for us this week too. Next week is going to be very interesting."
CSU (+45) finished six strokes back of South Florida (+39) and seven back of College of Charleston and Cincinnati (+38), which tied for eighth.
Middle Tennessee State (+9) won the event by one stroke over Campbell (+10). North Florida (+17) was third, followed by Coastal Carolina (+18) and Toledo (+18), who tied for fourth.
