CHARLESTON, S.C. – Charleston Southern dominated play on both ends of the field and exploded for three goals in the second half in a 3-0 victory over visiting Wofford in the Bucs' home opener on Sunday at the CSU Soccer Field.

Kylie Doster scored for the second time in as many games, and Zari Hayes and Grace Gompers tallied their first career goals to lift the Bucs to 2-0 on the young season. The Terriers dropped to 1-1.

How It Happened
•    Despite taking nine shots in the first half, the Bucs were unable to dent the scoreboard and the teams went into the break scoreless.
•    It remained even until CSU scored three times in a span of under 12 minutes to pull away.
•    Hayes, a freshman making her collegiate debut, took a feed from another first-year player – Bri Robinson – and scored in the 71st minute for what proved to be the game-winning goal.
•    Doster added her second goal of the season in the 75th minute. Kat Klingensmith sent a free kick into the box, and Kayla Reese fed Doster to make it 2-0.
•    Grace Gompers drew a foul in the box in the 83rd minute, and her penalty kick deflected off goalkeeper Maria Mon and over the line to round out the scoring.

Inside the Numbers
•    CSU finished with a 21-6 margin in shots and had eight on target compared to only one for Wofford.
•    The Buc' aggressive attack also generated six corner kicks.
•    Dakota Fielder led CSU with five shots, followed by Hayes with four and Robinson with three. Fielder, Hayes and Doster each had two shots on goal.
•    It was a quiet day for Jazmin Gonzalez as she saved the only shot the Terriers put on goal. Eva Dailey was able to put one off the crossbar in the 79th minute for Wofford's best scoring opportunity.

News and Notes
•    CSU is 2-0 for the first time since starting the 2009 season with four consecutive victories.
•    The Bucs are now 6-2 against their rival from the Upstate including back-to-back shutouts.
•    Three CSU players have scored their first career goals through the first two games. Elise Borys had her initial score in a win over Jacksonville on Thursday.

Game-Winning Goal

Play of the Game

Quoting Eric Terrill
"We did a great job today, and I'm always happy with a shutout. Our attack got better in the second half, and we capitalized on our chances. We have returners really stepping up and being all-around leaders while our freshmen give us a whole other level of athleticism."

Up Next
The Bucs continue their four-game homestand on Friday with a 4 p.m. game against Navy in the first meeting since 2011.
