ASHEVILLE, N.C. – Bri Robinson and
Jenea Knight both scored in the second half for Charleston Southern Saturday afternoon, leading the Bucs to a 2-0 win over UNC Asheville at Greenwood Soccer Field.
Emma Ryan provided the assist on Robinson's match-winning goal, while
Erin Rush assisted on Knight's goal to seal the win for the Bucs.
Jenna Moran made five saves in goal for her third clean sheet of the season.
CSU was outshot 15-7 in the match, but the Bucs made the most of their chances. Five of the Bucs' seven shots were on target.
The Bucs allowed eight Asheville shots in the first half, but only one was on target. CSU had a 3-1 edge in shots on goal in the first half, but neither side was able to find an opening strike in the first 45 minutes.
Charleston Southern struck quickly in the second half, needing just 11 minutes after the break to take the lead. A throw-in down in the attacking zone by Ryan found the feet of Robinson, who dribbled past multiple Bulldog defenders and beat the goalkeeper with a near-side shot.
The Bucs withstood UNC Asheville's increased pressure after the Robinson goal and took advantage of a mistake on the backline to seal the win. Rush played a longball over the top that got through the Bulldog backline and sprung Knight free, which she converted for her team-leading third goal of the season.
Moran made four of her five saves in the second half to earn her second consecutive clean sheet.
