Bucs fall in series opener to Longwood

FARMVILLE, Va. - Charleston Southern was unable to rally back from an early deficit on Friday evening at Willett Hall as the Buccaneers fell on the road in the Big South series opener to Longwood, 94-48.

The Bucs (6-13, 4-11 Big South) struggled to connect throughout the contest as CSU shot just 25.4% from the floor and 22.2% from the three-point line in the loss. The Lancers (10-8, 9-4 Big South) connected at a 51.4% clip and hit 13-of-30 from behind the three-point line in securing the conference win.

The Lancers jumped out to the 29-6 lead at the end of the first quarter and held a 29-point lead at the halftime break on their way to their third consecutive win in the series.

Alyssia Faye paced eight Bucs in the scoring column with 14 points and added five rebounds in the contest. Makenna Winans chipped in eight points off the bench, while Anna Webster recorded a team-high six rebounds in the loss.

Kyla McMakin led all scorers with a game-high 27 points, while Akila Smith chipped in 16 points and 10 rebounds. Anne-Hamilton Leroy added 15 points and Adriana Shipp contributed 13 points and seven rebounds in the win. Tra'dayja Smith added eight points, 15 assists, and six rebounds in an all-around effort.
