Bucs dominate, take down preseason favorite Camels

CHARLESTON, S.C. – After setting the tone early with the doubles point, Charleston Southern rattled-off five-straight singles win to down the preseason favorite Campbell Camels Wednesday 6-1 in Big South women's tennis action from the Gary Clark Banks Sr. Tennis Center.

Charleston Southern (4-6, 2-0 Big South) got two quick 6-3 decisions on courts one and three to clinch the doubles point and had a 5-4 lead on two, then took the final five singles matches over Campbell (2-7, 0-3 Big South) to snap a three-game skid in the head-to-head series.

Zoe Cauthen and Tiffany Pyritz secured the a 6-3 win at the top doubles flight then Luiza Fullana and Michelle Schmitz clinched at the third flight with an identical 6-3 score.

Campbell would get a straight-set win on court two in singles to tie it 1-1, but it was all Bucs from there.

Freshman Khyanna Singh started the Buccaneer onslaught with a 6-3, 6-3 win at the third court then was followed by a three-set win from Madalina Man at the top flight, straight-set win from Zoe Cauthen at five to clinch, a three-set comeback from Tiffany Pyritz at six and three-set win at four from Michelle Schmitz.

Schmitz made it three-straight wins while Singh collected her team-leading sixth singles victory of the season. Cauthen and Pyritz added to their team-best doubles record moving to 6-2 on the season while Schmitz and Fullana grabbed win number three.

Wednesday's win keeps the Bucs unbeaten in Big South play just a half game back from Presbyterian in the standings, as well as moving the Bucs back above .500 at home with a 4-3 mark and 2-0 in conference play.
