ASHEVILLE, N.C. – Charleston Southern women's tennis capped their fourth all-time undefeated season in Big South play Sunday taking down UNC Asheville by a 5-2 margin.
Despite falling in doubles play for just the second time in Big South play, Charleston Southern (8-7, 6-0 Big South) stormed back with five singles wins to down UNC Asheville (5-8, 2-4 Big South) Sunday and finish the season 6-0 in Big South play – the fourth time the Bucs finish undefeated and their most Big South wins since the 2017 season, the last time the Bucs won the regular season title.
Madalina Man set a new career-high in singles wins collecting her ninth Sunday taking down her counterpart 7-6, 6-2 clinching the Buccaneer win. Her win at the top flight was the fourth of five-straight singles wins as the Bulldogs took the doubles point and final singles decision.
Khyanna Singh made quick work Sunday taking a 7-6, 6-3 decision on court three while
Zoe Cauthen (6-2, 6-2),
Michelle Schmitz (6-2, 7-6) and
Tiffany Pyritz (6-1, 6-1) took the final three flights in straight sets to get the Buccaneer run going.
Man and Singh secured a doubles win 7-5 at the top flight but a pair of 7-6 decisions on two and three gave UNC Asheville the 1-0 lead at the time.
Sunday's win gives the Bucs a four-match win streak heading into the Hercules Tires 2021 Big South Women's Tennis Championships where they will be the No. 1 seed. Charleston Southern will face the No. 4 seed (opponent to be determined) Saturday in the semifinals round from Charlotte, N.C.
