Bucs take down Highlanders, remain atop Big South standings

RADFORD, Va. - Despite dropping their first doubles point in Big South play, Charleston Southern tennis refused to let that slow down their undefeated start to league play.

Charleston Southern (6-7, 4-0 Big South) fell for the first time in doubles action Saturday but it proved to just be a small blip on the radar as they took four singles courts to down Radford (5-8, 3-2 Big South) Saturday in a pivotal match.

Luiza Fullana got the run started with a dominant 6-1, 6-1 win at the second court then was followed by Tiffany Pyritz's 6-3, 6-2 win on the sixth flight and Zoe Cauthen's 6-2, 6-3 victory at the fourth flight.

Radford would answer with a win at the top flight to bring it to a 3-2 margin, but senior Michelle Schmitz delivered in the clutch with a 2-6, 6-4, 6-3 comeback win on court five pushing the Bucs to 4-0 in Big South play to keep pace with Presbyterian ahead of Tuesday's match that could decide a regular season title.

Fullana and Schmitz grabbed the Bucs' lone doubles win to finish 2-0 on the day between singles and doubles play.
