CHARLESTON, S.C. - Charleston Southern Director of Athletics Jeff Barber announced that Jordan Jeffers will be the head men's and women's golf coach effective immediately as the Buccaneers continue preparations for the upcoming 2021-22 season.
Â
Jeffers has been serving as the CSU head women's golf coach after assuming the role in the summer of 2019. He takes over the reins of both programs as the Buccaneers look to continue their improvement in on the links over the last few seasons.
Â
"I'm very excited to announce that Coach Jeffers will now serve as Head Coach for both our men's and women's golf teams," Barber said. "This has been a successful model used around the country and one I believe will serve CSU very well."
Â
The Bucs' men's program is coming off one of the most successful programs in school history as CSU finished the 2020-21 regular season with a 21-1 record against Big South competition and the lowest team stroke average in the conference. CSU had four players finish among the top-20 individual scorers in the conference, while Ben Carroll was named Big South Freshman of the Year.
Â
Jeffers looks forward to the opportunity to work with the program moving forward.
Â
"I am incredibly humbled and excited to become the head men's and women's golf coach at Charleston Southern," Jeffers said. "CSU is a special place and it has been a true blessing for my family. I look forward to bringing in more great student-athletes for both programs that will continue to focus on our vision and mission."
Â
He continued, "I would like to thank A.D. Jeff Barber for giving me this opportunity and to extend my gratitude to all the staff at CSU that support both myself and the other coaches. Last, but certainly not least, I want to thank my family, my beautiful wife Brianna, and daughter Brennan, for all their love and support. Go Bucs!"
Â
Jeffers came to the Buccaneers by way of Houston Baptist University where he served as an assistant coach for both the men's and women's golf programs.
Â
During his tenure, the Buccaneers have had three players finish among the conference's top-20 in individual scoring average. The Bucs have also had a golfer recognized as Player of the Week on three separate occasions.
Â
In the 2020-21 season Jeffers guided a roster that featured two true freshmen and a transfer to a season-opening third-place result at the Battle at Old South. The Buccaneers topped Cincinnati and Jacksonville over the opening weekend in match play on their way to finishing among the best in the field. Freshmen Caroline Engelbredt (8th) and junior Isabell Friberg (19th) both finished among the conference's scoring leaders, while Friberg earned Big South Golfer of the Week honors during the season.
Â
The 2019-20 season was cut short due to COVID, but the Bucs made strides in their first year under Jeffers' leadership. Ellen Hume took home two individual titles and posted five top-10 finishes on her way to finishing second in the Big South in stroke average. The Bucs took the title at the Wescott Shootout and added a top-10 finish at the Elon Invitational to highlight the season.
Â
Jeffers spent five seasons as an assistant coach at HBU working with both teams and was key to the success of the Huskies' women's program over the last several years. HBU advanced to the NCAA Women's Tournament in two of the last three seasons, including back-to-back appearances in both 2017 and 2018.
Â
Overall during his time at HBU, the women's golf team posted five top-three finishes in the Southland Conference Championships, as well as two individual conference champions. The Huskies recorded 12 first-place finishes and 36 top-five finishes over his five seasons with the program.
Â
In addition to the success of the women's program, Houston Baptist also posted several accolades on the men's side. The Huskies recorded 10 top-five team finishes over his five years with the program, including a team scoring average of 297.31 over four years. He coached three athletes to All-Southland Conference teams during his tenure.
Â
Prior to Houston Baptist, Jeffers served as an assistant to Head Golf Coach Paul Chavez at Odessa College from 2012-2014. He helped with the Odessa men's golf team, while also providing private lessons and organizing junior golf camps.
Â
Jeffers was no stranger to HBU, as he competed on the 2009 Great West Conference championship team. In that season, he was named the GWC Newcomer of the Year and finished as the individual runner-up at the conference championship.
Â
Jeffers was a PING All-American and two-time state finalist at Odessa College, following a standout career at Dalhart High School. He earned his Bachelor of General Studies degree at West Texas A&M.
