CHARLESTON, S.C. – Charleston Southern Director of Athletics Jeff Barber announced Wednesday the hiring of Mike Smith as the Buccaneers' Associate Athletics Director for Development and Tickets.
"We are all excited to have Mike join the Buccaneers family," Barber said. "He has a great deal of experience in college athletics and understands where we want to go as a department. He and Katy will prove to be valuable members of both Charleston Southern and the surrounding community."
Smith joins the CSU family after serving as the Executive Director for the Gardner-Webb Bulldog Club. With the Big South peer, he led all fundraising and corporate sponsorship sales efforts.
A veteran of collegiate athletics throughout his career, he also recently served time as a major gift officer at Southern Miss as well as athletics development and external relations duties at Limestone, XOS Digital/Arkansas State and Florida Atlantic.
"I am honored, humbled and excited to have the opportunity to join the team that serves Charleston Southern University and Buccaneer athletics," Smith said. "I'm looking forward to teaming with Dr. Costin, CSU President, and Jeff Barber, Director of Athletics, to bolster the Buc Club and our individual sport programs along with increasing revenue generation for our corporate sponsorships and ticket sales.
"I am grateful for the chance to help Bucs athletics continue a long legacy of success on and off the field and court. I am looking forward to connecting with current Buc Club members, alumni, fans, our advancement and athletics staff and coaches, and students to continue to expand our brand and increase revenue generation for Buccaneer athletics. Go Bucs!"
The Eden, North Carolina, native also gained athletic corporate sponsorship sales and ticketing knowledge during his career with stops at Ole Miss, North Carolina and Georgia Tech.
He earned his bachelor's degree in communication from NC State. He and his wife Katy, a Laurel, Mississippi, native, enjoy spending time with friends and family, playing golf and going to the beach.
