CHARLOTTE, N.C. – After recording a top-five finish in his first race of the season, Fearghal Curtain was named Big South Runner of the Week, as announced by the conference office Wednesday afternoon.
Curtin placed fifth out of 254 finishers in last week's FSU XC Open, crossing the line in 23:57.4. He was the only person in the top five who wasn't from a Power Five school.
Curtin's time was also a personal best in the 8K, knocking off more than 20 seconds from his previous best when he was at Arizona State. His time helped the Bucs place fourth in the meet, behind only national powers Florida State and Stanford and regional rival Furman.
The award is Curtin's second career Big South weekly honor and his first since 2017. It's the first weekly honor for a Buccaneer men's cross country runner since
Alan Deogracias earned Runner of the Week honors during last year's spring season.
Curtin and the Bucs next head to Coastal Carolina for the Chanticleer Challenge on October 1.
