Bucs Go Across the City for Low Country Battle

The Charleston Southern women's basketball team heads to the other side of the low country this Sunday to take on the College of Charleston Cougars. The Buccaneers (2-6) look to bounce back from a 53-point loss at home against the Clemson Tigers this past Thursday.

This will be the 62nd overall meeting between these two teams with the Cougars leading the series 50-11. College of Charleston won the matchup last year at the Buc Dome 96-60.

College of Charleston
The Cougars come into this game with a 3-3 record and have won two straight, including an 85-81 win over Coastal Carolina on Friday night. The Bucs will be the third team from the Big South Conference that C of C will face this season. They defeated Radford 79-60 on the road back on November 30, and lost on the road to Gardner Webb back on November 23.

College of Charleston is led by Head Coach Robin Harmony, who is in her third season in the low country. She led the Cougars to 18 wins last season, which was the third most single-season wins in school history. They fell to the top-seeded Drexel in the semi-finals of the CAA Tournament. This season is expected to be her best, as the Cougars were picked to finish second in the CAA this season.

Charleston Southern
  • The Bucs are averaging 51.5 points per game, but are giving up 73.6 points per game, which is a point differential of -22.
  • The schedule has not been easy for Clarisse Garcia's team to start the season. The non-conference schedule has included two ACC teams (Duke and Clemson) as well as a trip to East Carolina and George Mason. They also play top-ranked South Carolina later this month.
  • Turnovers have been a problem for the Bucs this season. They are giving the ball away 23.5 turnovers per game.
  • Catherine Alben continues her stellar freshman season, leading the team in both points per game (9.9) and rebounds per game (5.4).
  • Saniya Jones is coming off of her best game of her freshman season. Against Clemson, in her second career start, she played a season-high 24 minutes and tied for the team lead in scoring with seven points as well as 13 rebounds.
