ASHEVILLE, N.C. – Charleston Southern women's basketball put a cap on the first regular season under head coach
Clarisse Garcia Saturday afternoon, falling on the road to UNC Asheville, 63-43, inside Kimmel Arena.
BALTEZEGAR FINSHES AS EFFECTIVE SCORER
Two-time Big South Freshman of the Week selection
Skylar Baltezegar led the way for the Buccaneers in the scoring column with 13 points. She made the most of her presence in the paint, dropping in 6-of-9 field goals on her way to being CSU's lone double-figure scorer.
GITTENS GRABS HER MOST EVER
Another category that produced a double-figure individual number was rebounds, as junior
Tori Gittens hauled down 11 boards, nine defensively, to set a new career high. She had previously equaled her career best of seven just under a month ago at Longwood before crashing the boards to lead all players in Saturday's matchup.
I'LL HELP
Junior
Sha'Mya Leigh found ways to contribute to the Charleston Southern (2-26, 2-15 Big South) offense, although it was not by scoring. She handed out a team-high four assists, one-half of the Buccaneers' overall total. She also shared the squad's top number in steals with freshman
Madison Adamson, as the pair each had two on the defensive end.
FAYE RETURNS
Redshirt senior
Alyssia Faye returned to the court for the first time since the home clash with Presbyterian Feb. 5. She played 16 minutes, hauling down five rebounds to go along with four points.
EFFECTIVE IN RELIEF
Behind Baltezegar and Faye's combined 17 points, it was one category in which the Bucs held the upper hand over UNC Asheville (8-21, 3-15 Big South). The duo's production outpaced the Bulldogs' reserves, who were limited to just six points.
UP NEXT
Charleston Southern will join the rest of its league peers in Charlotte for the Hercules Tires Big South Championships, which start with Tuesday's First Round inside Bojangles Coliseum. The Buccaneers will learn of their first opponent and start date when the full brackets are released by the league office later.
