CSU unable to slow Runnin’ Bulldogs hot start

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Visiting Gardner-Webb connected on over 56 percent of its field goals through the opening period, racing out to an early advantage and Charleston Southern was unable to close the gap in a 90-51 loss Wednesday night inside Buccaneer Fieldhouse in Big South women's basketball action.

FARGO LIGHTS UP FROM DEEP
Sophomore Janaia Fargo continued to tickle the twine for the Bucs in a big way, especially from long range, as she set a career high with four 3-pointers made on her way to a 13-point night. She has hit at least one trifecta in 10-straight games, dating back to the first matchup with the Runnin' Bulldogs Jan. 5. The streak of multiple triples was extended to six-in-a-row with the career-best performance as she buried at least three in a game for the third time since at North Carolina A&T Jan. 19.

ADAMSON'S CAREER NIGHT COMES IN FULL TIME
Freshman Madison Adamson was among the starting five for the third-straight game and put in a career effort, herself, with a career-high 15 points to go along with seven rebounds, three assists and a steal in playing the entire 40 minutes. It marked the first double-figure scoring game of her career. She hit two 3-pointers for the second-consecutive contest and third overall in her young Charleston Southern (2-20, 2-9 Big South) career.

GITTENS RETURNS TO FORM
Junior Tori Gittens bounced back with her third double-figure scoring game in the last four by making it a trio of Bucs above the mark with her 11. She also hit two treys, her fourth-straight game with multiple makes from behind the arc while joining Adamson for game-high honors with six attempted free throws.

BALTEZEGAR GRABS DOUBLE-FIGURE BOARDS IN RETURN
Two-time Big South Freshman of the Week Skylar Baltezegar made a splash in her return to the lineup Wednesday night, hauling in 11 rebounds to tie Alasia Smith of Gardner-Webb (11-13, 9-4 Big South) for the most of any individual in the contest. Baltezegar's 11 caroms are one shy of her career high, set against George Mason in her home debut Nov. 16. She had 10 boards in the previous meeting with Gardner-Webb, her only two conference games in which she tallied double-figure rebounds.

QUICK TRIP OUT OF TOWN
The Buccaneers hit the road for their next contest, a 2 p.m. Saturday tip-off in Buies Creek, North Carolina, at Campbell. It's the only time CSU hits the road in a five-game span with two more home tilts on deck next week with the Bucs playing host to Winthrop Tuesday and High Point Thursday night.
