Historic Season Comes to a Close in Athens

ATHENS, Ga. – Charleston Southern fell 4-0 to the No. 14 national seed Georgia Saturday in first round action of the 2022 NCAA Women's Tennis Championships, ending their historic 2022 season.

Georgia (18-6) was able to make quick work of the doubles stanza, taking wins at the first two flights to clinch the first point. Madalina Man and Khyanna Singh were battling at the third flight before that match went unfinished.
 
Charleston Southern (17-6) was unable to pick up a point in singles play as well, as the Bulldogs were led by a slew of top-ranked players in singles play. Luiza Fullana had a strong showing on court one, taking three games from No. 17-ranked Mell Reasco in the first set before falling 6-3, 6-0. Laura Marti was in a thriller at the third flight, battling back after falling 6-1 to lead 5-1 in the second set before going unfinished after the Bulldogs clinched the match.

Friday's loss ends a magical season for the Bucs who went a perfect 10-0 in Big South play including the Big South Championships and earning the program's third NCAA Tournament appearance. Nine Big South postseason accolades also came during the Bucs' 2022 run with seven student-athletes receiving recognition.

Georgia moves on to host No. 23 Wake Forest in the Round of 32 from the Dan Magill Tennis ComplexCampus in Athens.
