CHARLESTON, S.C. – Charleston Southern turned in a dominant defensive performance, limiting UNC Asheville to just seven shots, in a 2-0 win over the Bulldogs on Wednesday at the CSU Soccer Field.
Erin Rush and
Jenea Knight scored goals to back
Sara Curtis' shutout goaltending as the Bucs improved to 2-1 in the Big South and 4-6-1 overall. CSU finished with 17 shots, including eight on target, while the Bulldogs had just two shots on goal.
Rush gave the Bucs the only goal they would need when she scored for the third time in the 31st minute. Knight tallied her team-leading fifth of the year in the 58th minute to help secure the victory. Knight also paces the team with 14 points, and Rush has 10 to move into a tie for second with
Bri Robinson.
Curtis had two saves in her fourth clean sheet of the season and second in conference play after a 2-0 win at USC Upstate on Saturday. Bronwyn Luitwieler made six saves for the Bulldogs.
Daniela Contreras finished with a team-high four shots,
Dakota Fiedler had three and Knight, Rush and
Kayla Reese each fired a pair of shots.
The Bucs are scheduled to play at Presbyterian on Saturday at 7 p.m. but that game is dependent on the impact of Hurricane Ian on the upstate.
