DURHAM, N.C. – Charleston Southern dropped both of their matches on Sunday as they opened the spring season with Charlotte and Duke.
The Buccaneers (0-2) lost the doubles on courts one and three to Charlotte. The 49ers won 6-0 on the third court before taking the top court 6-3.
Noa Boyd and
Amila Jusufbegovic were tied 4-4 on court two when their match was halted.
The 49ers won singles on courts 2, 4, and 5 to clinch the match and thereby stopping the match. The Bucs were winning on the other three courts that were left unfinished;
Luiza Fullana won the first set 6-4 on the top court as did
Zoe Cauthen on court 6.
Noa Boyd also won the first set, but dropped the second and was unable to finish the third set.
Duke took all three doubles matches in the earlier match to earn the doubles point. They also finished off three singles victories on courts 3, 4, and 5. Jusufbegovic was fighting back from a first set loss on court two and leading the second set when play was halted.
