CHARLESTON, S.C. - For the final time this season, the Charleston Southern women's basketball team will play at The Buc Dome, hosting the UNC Asheville Bulldogs at 6 p.m. on Wednesday. 

The Bulldogs lead the overall series 43-32, but are just 14-23 at the Buc Dome. The Bucs (5-22, 3-13 in conference) last defeated the Bulldogs in the 2020-21 season 67-63 in The Buc Dome. 

This will be the second matchup between these two teams with the Bulldogs taking the 43-40 win back on January 18^th in Asheville. In that game, the Bucs outscored the Bulldogs 20-12 in the second half, but a slow start made it difficult for a comeback. Sha'Mya Leigh had 11 points to lead the Bucs, and Kennedi Jackson had seven rebounds. 

Since that performance, the Bulldogs are 4-5, having just lost to Big South-leading Gardner-Webb 82-58. They sit in seventh place in the Big South standings with a 6-10 conference record (10-17 overall) entering Wednesday night's matchup. Defensively, they have been strong this season. The Bulldogs are fifth in the Big South, only allowing 62.6 points per game, while averaging 57.3 points per game on the offensive side (seventh in Big South).

Honey Brown is in her third season as Head Coach at UNC Asheville. In her time there, she has an overall record of 30-54. Her era at UNC Asheville was highlighted during the Big South Tournament last season, when her team upset North Carolina A&T and USC Upstate. 

In Charleston Southern's win against Winthrop last Saturday, four players scored in double figures. Zaire Hicks led the way with 13 points as well as seven assists, Kennedi Jackson had 12 points, Leigh had 11 points and Madison Adamson had 10 points.

Saniya Jones also had a career day. She tied a school record on Saturday with seven blocks while also leading the team with 11 rebounds in 19 minutes.

The Bucs will be honoring three seniors prior to Wednesday's game; including Sha'Mya Leigh, Zaire Hicks and Tori Gittens. Fans will be asked to get to The Buc Dome early to recognize them for their efforts both on and off the court.
