Charleston Southern sits in second place after the first day of competition at the Big South Indoor Track & Field Championships and have already seen two individual champions.
Sprints/Hurdles
Lauryn James and
Destiny Wallace went 1-2 in the 60m prelims and will be the top seeds in Saturday's final. The pair also advanced into the 200m final.
Chaneal Harris and Koppe both qualified for the final in the 60m hurdles as did
Dylann Core and
Maddie St. Louis in the 400m. In total, that's eight total spots in the sprints/hurdles finals on Saturday
Combined
Chloe Greene won the conference crown in the pentathlon with 3487 points. She won four of the five events - both jumping and both running events - on her way to the conference title.Â
Throws
Zamaya Carson posted a new school record that was nearly a meter more than her previous best on her way to winning the shot put. Her best mark of 14.49m helped the freshman top the podium in her first conference championship.
Distance
Sarah McCartney finished fourth in the 5K with a time of 17:09.83. Meanwhile,
Anne Akagi qualified for the final in the 800m
The Bucs finished third in the Distance Medley Relay with their season best time of 12:20.90.
