CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Big South Conference their end of the season awards on Tuesday, and a pair of Bucs were on that list, receiving conference honors.
Catherine Alben was named to the Big South All-Freshman on Tuesday, and Zaire Hicks was named to the Big South All-Academic team.
In 28 games this season (2 GS), Alben led the team in points per game (9.3) and was an integral part of Clarisse Garcia's team running the point guard position off the bench. The Grayson, GA native burst onto the scene on opening night against Georgia College, when she had 22 points and 13 rebounds.
The highlight of her 2022-23 season was the week of January 9
th, when she was named Big South Freshman of the week after a career-high 25-point performance against Presbyterian on January 7
th. She is the first player in the Clarisse Garcia era to receive these conference honors.
Hicks was awarded for her efforts off the court. In her lone season playing at Charleston Southern, the redshirt senior from Memphis, TN maintained a 4.0 GPA while majoring in Kinesiology.
On the court, Hicks found success as well, appearing in all 29 games (24 GS) and led the team in steals (43) and assists (70). In the final game of the regular season, she had a season-high 17 points on 6/10 shooting.

th-seeded Bucs will face USC Upstate, the 7
th seed, in the opening round at 2 p.m. on Wednesday.
