CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Charleston Southern women's basketball team fell to 0-2 at home this season, as the Fairfield Stags came to The Buc Dome and picked up a 79-36 win on Monday night.
Fairfield improved to 3-2 on the season, as they made 14 three-point shots on the night, including six from Meghan Andersen, who had 32 points for the Stags. The Bucs (1-6) were just 3/17 from beyond the arc.
In a low-scoring first quarter, the Buccaneers jumped out to a 5-0 lead, as the Stags did not get their first field goal until the 7:19 mark of the opening quarter. After that, the Bucs did not get another field goal until
Tyonna Bailey knocked down a three pointer to tie the game at eight.
From there, the Stags proceeded to go on a 10-0 run, until a layup from
Catherine Alben stopped the run with 7:26 to go in the first half. Charleston Southern was outscored 19-6 in the second quarter.
In the second half, the Stags turned it up from beyond the arc, as they made nine three-points and shot over 50% from the field.
Saniya Jones was the Buccaneers' leader with 11 rebounds in 31 minutes. Both were season highs.
Courtney Davis played a career-high 24 minutes, and
Tyonna Bailey was the leading scorer with nine points.
