CHARLESTON – Charleston Southern defeated Longwood by sweep on Saturday to improve to 3-1 in Big South action as they got the victory on their senior day.
The Buccaneers started the morning by claiming the doubles point with their victories on courts #1 and #3. The topflight of
Noa Boyd and
Jessica Braun was the first one to be finished with them taking it 6-1. The result on court #3 was the one that clinched the point with a 6-4 win by
Khyanna Singh and
Brenda Yoris.
Charleston Southern sprinted out to further their lead and clinch the overall match.
Marina Skegro was the first to have hers finish with her winning 6-2, 6-1 on the #3 court. After that, Boyd won hers at #2 by a 6-2, 6-2 final score. Braun provided the match clincher for the Bucs with her 6-1, 6-1 victory in the topflight.
Kassandra Di Staulo had the next to get completed with her winning 6-2, 6-2. Singh was victorious on her senior day with a final score in hers by 6-4, 6-4. Yoris had the final one to conclude with her going to a third set. She dropped the first set in a tiebreaker and ended up having the final score at 6-7 (1), 6-0, 1-0 (10-3).
Charleston Southern is back in action tomorrow for their conference finale. They will be traveling to Boiling Springs, N.C. to take on Gardner-Webb (3-1). The two teams are also expected to face each other in the Semifinals of the Big South Tournament.
