Bucs to Leave the Station for Furman Invitational

Charleston, S.C. – The Buccaneers men's and women's cross-country teams will compete at the Furman Invitational in Greenville, S.C., on Saturday, Sept. 14. The women's 6k is set for 9:15 a.m., while the men's 8k starts at 10 a.m.

The Charleston Southern Men and Women will look to impact the race from the start. In the season opening meet, graduate student Sarah McCartney was the first to cross the line with a time of 18:04.3, claiming the individual title at the race. She would later be rewarded Big South Runner of the Week due to her efforts. Sophomore Katrina Hubsy would be the next Buc to cross the finish line as she took 3rd with a time of 18:34.4. The women would finish with five runners in the top twenty. They would go on to win the CSU Buccaneer Invitational with a score of 29 points.

The men were led by Caleb Kenyon who won the CSU Buccaneer Invitational with a time of 19:11.9 in the 6k and would later be named the Big South Runner of the Week. A new member on the team that turned a lot of heads during the race was the electric freshman Lin Scott who placed 5th with a time of 19:21.7. He was the highest finishing freshman of the 16 that were entered. Due to this amazing first race Lin Scott was selected as the Big South Freshman of the Week. With the performances by these two, it helped boost the Buccaneer men to win the meet. The team would go on to win the meet with a total score of 20 points.

Charleston Southern raced last year at the Furman Invitational with the women finishing 4th in front of Charlotte along with many others. The men finished 3rd in front of Clemson and Southern Wesleyan. The women were led by McCartney who finished with a time of 21:43.46 in the 6k. The men would be lead with a second-place finish by graduate student Micah Gilpatric with a time of 17:59.43 in the 6k as well.
