CHARLESTON, S.C. - The Charleston Southern women's soccer team closed the non-conference slate by defeating the Alabama A&M Bulldogs by a 2-1 score on Saturday.
The Bulldogs (2-7-0) got on the board first in just the third minute to take a 1-0 lead. In the 27
th minute,
Daniela Contreras scored her fourth goal of the season on a penalty kick to make it 1-1. In the 40
th minute,
Danika Birch scored her fourth goal of the season and gave the Buccaneers (3-3-2) the 2-1 lead on a header that was assisted by Giana Simon and
Kyia Tucker. Both Contreras and Birch are tied for the team lead in goals scored this season.
In the second half, neither team allowed a goal, as Alabama A&M put up eight shots, while Charleston Southern put up six. For the day, the Bulldogs had 13 shots with six shots on goal, and the Buccaneers had 17 with eight being on goal.
Jenna Moran finished the afternoon with five saves.
