CHARLESTON, S.C. - The Charleston Southern women's soccer team shut out the South Carolina State Bulldogs by a 5-0 score at CSU Soccer Field.
In her second career start in goal,
Avery Mason picks up her first career shutout. The Bucs' defense only allowed five shots on the afternoon. Charleston Southern (2-2-1) scored within the first three minutes on
Kyia Tucker's first goal of the season from Jenéa Knight. Then, 15 minutes later, Knight scored her second goal of the season on a pass from
Claire DeAngelis to make it 2-0.
Freshman,
Danika Birch, scored one of two goals on the afternoon in the 19
th minute to make it 3-0 going into the break. Just under one minute into the second half, Birch scored again. 19 players made an appearance for the Bucs on the afternoon, including Giana Simon, who scored the final goal in the 82
nd minute to go up 5-0. It was her first goal of the season and was assisted by
Elina Kunik.
Charleston Southern had 19 shots (11 SOG), including 13 in the second half, while S.C. State (0-7-0) had just five with one being on goal.
