SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Sedona Dancu gave Charleston Southern the lead just seconds into the second half, but USC Upstate responded with two quick goals to hand the Buccaneers their first loss in conference play Wednesday night at County University Soccer Stadium.
After a scoreless first half, Dancu struck in the 47th minute, lofting in a perfect shot from the top of the box for her second goal of the year. The advantage was short-lived, however, as Paige Armstrong equalized for the Spartans in the 53rd minute before Hannah Johnson netted the game-winner two minutes later.
Charleston Southern pushed for a late equalizer, with Dancu and Katie Hoffman both testing the Upstate defense, but the Spartans' back line and goalkeeper Madison Ejgird held firm. CSU finished with seven shots, including four on target, and earned three corners.
