CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Charleston Southern women's soccer team closed out the regular season on a high note Wednesday afternoon, scoring twice in the second half to defeat Presbyterian, 3-1, at CSU Soccer Field.
The Bucs advance to the Big South Championships as the No. 6 seed after Winthrop and High Point tied 1-1 in their match today. CSU will play Longwood in the opening round of the tournament.
The Blue Hose struck first in the 14th minute when Sloan Spees found the net off a setup from Lindsey Malyszek. CSU equalized 20 minutes later as pressure inside the box from Sedona Dancu forced an own goal in the 35th minute, sending the teams into halftime tied at 1-1.
After the break, the Buccaneers took control. In the 75th minute, Jenéa Knight buried her team-leading seventh goal of the season to give CSU its first lead. Just over three minutes later, Hailey Swenson added insurance with her second goal of the year, assisted by Rachel Gopalakrishnan, securing the 3-1 victory.
Goalkeeper Avery Mason anchored the defense with six saves.
