BOSTON, MASS. – The Charleston Southern men's track & field opened the indoor track and field season at Boston's Sharon Colyear Season Opener on Saturday with some of their top distance runners making the trip for one of the nation's premier meets. The Buccaneers'
Griffin Gillespie and
Martin Iriondo highlighted the performances at the meet.
Gillespie was the first from Charleston Southern to compete on the day as he ran in the 3K at the meet. In the afternoon session, he ran a personal best of 8:06.48 in the third heat to take 41
st overall in the field of over 120 runners. Gillespie remains third all-time for the event in school history but now holds an even faster time.
Iriondo had the best race of the four Buccaneer entrees in the 5K, the final races of the evening. He had a personal best time of 14:05.96 to slide up to third all-time in school history for the event.
Micah Gilpatric also ran in the event, but in a different heat, and had a time of 14:25.29 as well as
Zach Mickler with a 14:58.89.
Caleb Kenyon did not finish in his.
This marked the one and only meet ahead of the winter break for the Bucs as they will now continue preparations for final exams. Following the Holidays, they return to action for the Clemson Invite which will be held on Saturday, January 10 at Clemson.
