CHARLESTON – On Wednesday, Charleston Southern hosted the Big South Conference's newest Women's Tennis member school, the NJIT Highlanders. CSU picked up the league victory, 4-3.
Charleston Southern began the day with positive energy in doubles play, where the duo of Carle Botha and Amike Botha delivered a decisive 6-2 win. Brenda Yoris and Camila Molina Barranco matched that effort with a 6-2 victory of their own, giving the Buccaneers the early doubles point. The pairing of Marina Skegro and Carlota Farres Carreter was in a tight battle at 5-4 when play was halted.
The Buccaneers showed resilience throughout singles play, highlighted by three strong victories on the lower three courts. Freshman standout Amike Botha put CSU on the board with an impressive 7-5, 6-0 win, showcasing control from the baseline and consistency in key rallies. Her sister, Carle Botha added another dominant performance, winning on court number four, 6-1, 6-3. Camila Molina Barranco ended the day with one of the most thrilling matches of the afternoon, rallying from a set down to defeat her NJIT opponent 4-6, 7-5, 6-0, completely taking over in the third set.Â
