John DeBruhl joined the Charleston Southern athletic staff in January 2022 as an Assistant Athletic Trainer, and in August of 2023, he was elevated to the role of Associate Athletic Trainer. DeBruhl's primary sport responsibility is with the women's basketball, women's golf and women's tennis teams. Prior to returning to his alma mater of CSU, he spent the prior five years in the Jacksonville area working in a variety of roles within the field of sports medicine.
 
In addition to his primary sport assignment, he oversees the Athletic Training Clinic in the Buccaneer Fieldhouse and is a preceptor for the Charleston Southern Athletic Training Program.
 
While in Florida, he worked at Robert E. Lee High School becoming the first athletic trainer at the school, covering each sport. DeBruhl established an athletic training program at the school as well. He first started with the school while completing his Master's Degree at nearby Jacksonville University. 

Additionally, he was the treasurer for the Gateway Conference Athletic Association, serving in the organization for three years. During the 2019 and 2020 NFL seasons, he worked part time with the Jacksonville Jaguars and was on the sidelines for each home game during those years. During the 2019 season, DeBruhl was on site when Super Bowl MVP Nick Foles suffered a broken left clavicle.
 
DeBruhl received his bachelors in athletics training in 2017 from the Charleston Southern University. During his time as an undergrad at CSU, he worked as a first aider for the varsity spirit squad. Following his graduation, he began working on his Master's in Kinesiological Sciences from Jacksonville University through Project17, completing his degree in 2019. 
 
John currently lives in Summerville and has a pair of dogs - Jax and Deino. He is certified in Athletic Training in South Carolina as well as licensed in Florida. he is an active member of SCATA.
