Ally Powell joined the Charleston Southern Athletics Department in October of 2024 as the Director of Broadcasting. In her role, she oversees all the ESPN+ broadcasts put on by the department, showcasing the coaches, student-athletes and programs nationwide through the ESPN family of networks.Â
Since joining the Buccaneers, she played a crucial role in the implementation of official review at CSU Softball Field as the 2025 season marked the first year of it being required for all broadcasted games at the NCAA DI level. She assisted in the selection of equipment, location of the setup and ensuring the umpires were familiar with how the process would be at the facility. Additionally, her and her team were able to get over 60 games streamed during the year with the metrics of the contests ranking among the league's best.
This marks Powell's second stop in Charleston as she originally came to the Holy City as a broadcast producer for WCBD News 2. She worked with the company from June 2023-October 2024 and produced newscasts five days a week. She created the rundowns and filled it with local, regional, and national content as well as built boxes, graphics, stingers, and wrote all of the scripts. When it was time for air, she kept the show on time, ran the teleprompter for the anchors, and cued live reporters in the field.
During her time as an undergraduate student at App State, she worked with AppTV for three years serving in roles ranging from correspondent, anchor and producer. Her final year saw her work primarily as a producer where she managed a crew of seven people to plan their weekly show which included gathering stories and writing scripts and teases. In 2021, she received the Broadcast Story of the Year, Broadcast Sport Story from the Associated College Press as well as Honorable Mention from The Appalachian. In the summer of 2021, she interned with the High Point Rockers of the ALPB where she worked in the promotional department.
Powell graduated from Appalachian State University in May of 2023 with her Bachelor's Degree in Electronic Media/Broadcasting. She is originally from High Point, N.C. and was spent time in year round and summer swim leagues growing up.
