CHARLESTON, S.C. - Charleston Southern opened up their 2015 season strong with a 6-1 win over visiting South Carolina State on Saturday afternoon at the Buccaneer Tennis Complex.
Marketa Placha, Angelica Sidorenko, Nicolin Luecke, Mi'Kola Cooper and Valeria Koussenkova all recorded singles victories while CSU swept all three doubles courts in their first action on the home courts.
CSU improves to 1-0 in the 2015 season in their first action and picked up their 10th consecutive regular season win at home dating back to the 2013 season. The Bucs also picked up their third consecutive 6-1 win over the visiting Bulldogs and second season opening win over S.C. State in the past three years.
Sidorenko and Cooper topped Intissar Rassif and Oleksandra Filippova on court no. 1 in doubles action 8-1, while Yvonne Hubler and Luecke topped Dakota Brown and Marketa Marcanikova on court no. 2, 8-6. Placha and Sophie Cloessner helped the Bucs complete the sweep with an 8-2 win on court no. 3 over Luiza Duarte and Claudia Roca.
The Bucs dominance continued in singles play as the Placha topped Filippova on court no. 1 in straight sets, 6-1, 6-0. Sidorenko had a 6-0, 6-0 win over Vasic on court no. 3, while Luecke topped Brown on court no. 4, 6-3, 6-4.
Cooper (6-0, 6-1) and Koussenkova (6-0, 6-0) also picked up singles wins on courts 5 and 6 topping Roca and Marcanikova in straight sets.
Hubler suffered the lone loss for the Bucs on the day, falling in straight sets to Rassif, 6-4, 7-5.
The Buccaneers continue the 2015 season on the road next week as they travel to Savannah State on Tuesday afternoon. First serve between the Bucs and the Tigers is set for 1 p.m.
