Bucs Unable to Keep Pace with Bulldogs in High-Scoring Affair

The Citadel (6-1) took down Charleston Southern (2-7) in a game that featured 15 runs and 26 hits, with the final tally of 10-5.

The Bulldogs struck first in this one, with two runs in the second inning. In the third inning, the Bucs responded when Henry Gibson hit a double to register his first collegiate hit and was driven in by Kyle Sandstrom.

Citadel struck a big blow in the fifth inning with five runs to give them a 7-1 lead. Sparked by a triple from Alex Andronica, the Bucs plated a run via groundout by Sandstrom, collecting his second RBI of the night. Two strikeouts in the inning prevented CSU from adding anymore.

In the bottom of the seventh, a single and a hit batter put two on for the Bucs with two outs. Three straight walks added two runs. A hard-hit ball from Reid Hardwick could've scored more, but it was stopped by a diving fielder to end the inning. The Bucs also added a run in the ninth, but could not keep the rally going to extend the game.

Zach Taglieri (2-0) got the win for Citadel. He threw four innings and allowed a run on four hits, a walk, and four strikeouts.

Connor Yoder (0-3) took the loss for CSU, working two innings with two runs, four hits, a walk, and three strikeouts.

Gant Starling (2) picked up the save for Citadel, pitching two and a third innings allowing a run and three hits, striking out three.
