The Bulldogs struck first in this one, with two runs in the second inning. In the third inning, the Bucs responded when
Henry Gibson hit a double to register his first collegiate hit and was driven in by
Kyle Sandstrom.
Â
Citadel struck a big blow in the fifth inning with five runs to give them a 7-1 lead. Sparked by a triple from

In the bottom of the seventh, a single and a hit batter put two on for the Bucs with two outs. Three straight walks added two runs. A hard-hit ball from
Reid Hardwick could've scored more, but it was stopped by a diving fielder to end the inning. The Bucs also added a run in the ninth, but could not keep the rally going to extend the game.
Â
Zach Taglieri (2-0) got the win for Citadel. He threw four innings and allowed a run on four hits, a walk, and four strikeouts.
Â
Connor Yoder (0-3) took the loss for CSU, working two innings with two runs, four hits, a walk, and three strikeouts.
