CHARLESTON, S.C. – Fresh off a five-touchdown day, including four receiving scores and a passing touchdown, Charleston Southern's
Garris Schwarting has been named the Week 2 College Football Performance Awards FCS National Performer of the Week.
PILING ON THE NUMBERS
Schwarting led the way in the Bucs' 38-21 triumph at The Citadel Saturday, factoring into all five touchdowns. He caught scoring passes from
Jack Chambers from 23, 27, 69 and 24 yards out, while also tossing his first career touchdown strike, to
Kyris Barnett, on a six-yard pass in the opening quarter.
His four receiving touchdowns equal a Big South and program record for most in a single game. The other former CSU player to accomplish it was Maurice Price against Savannah State Oct. 22, 2005, while it happened last in league play in 2018.
The five touchdowns responsible for equal the school mark, set by Collin Drafts in 2004 and 2006.
Schwarting's 151 receiving yards rank as the most by any Buccaneers individual under head coach
Autry Denson and the 14th most in a single game in school history. He became the first CSU player to surpass 150 yards since 2011.
BUCS AS NATIONAL PERFORMERS OF THE WEEK
Schwarting becomes the first Charleston Southern offensive player to earn the award in school history, joining Dylan Black's 2013 Week 4 National Defensive Performer accolade as the only recipients. Mike Holloway garnered a pair of Honorable Mention plaudits during the 2015 campaign.
