Bucs Defeated in Low Country Battle

The Charleston Southern women's basketball team was defeated today by their crosstown rival, College of Charleston on the campus of C of C. The final score was 79-48.

The Bucs (2-7) were able to clean up their three-point shooting woes from Wednesday night against Clemson, as they were able to hit eight three pointers on the afternoon. Jackson was 3/5 and Sha'Mya Leigh was 2/4.

It was only a three-point deficit at the end of the first quarter for the Buccaneers. Despite falling behind 8-3 early on, they were able to cut it to three with layups from Tori Gittens and Catherine Alben to close the gap to 20-17. In the second quarter is where things were a little rocky for the Bucs. After tying it at 20 with a three pointer by Leigh, the Bucs were outscored 22-3 in the second quarter, including a 15-0 run to end it. The Bucs hit just two field goals, and did not score for the final seven minutes.

The Cougars carried that momentum into the third quarter, as they started the second half with a 10-0 run to take a 29-point lead. Jazmine Jackson hit a two-point jump shot to end the 25-0 run that started in the second quarter. After falling behind by 29, the Bucs were able to get something going offensively, scoring eight points of the quarter.

Kennedi Jackson had a double-double, leading all CSU scorers with 14 points and 13 rebounds in 25 minutes off of the bench. Jackson had 11 points as well.
