Edwards joins two-time defending Big South champions

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Charleston Southern head women's tennis coach Anca Dumitrescu has announced Sam Edwards as her new graduate assistant coach with the Buccaneers, beginning with the 2022-23 season. Edwards joins the program which is coming off back-to-back Big South titles and NCAA Tournament berths.

"I am very excited for Sam to join our program," Dumitrescu said. "He was a great college player and will bring valuable experience from having worked with top American and professional players."

Edwards, a Suwanee, Georgia, native, was a five-star recruit coming out of high school who originally attended Alabama before transferring to Clemson. With the Tigers, he played as high as No. 2 singles and No. 1 doubles in the lineup, climbing to as high as No. 37 in the Oracle/ITA national doubles rankings.

Since graduation in December 2018, Edwards has held a few different coaching as well as corporate roles before starting to only coach in April 2021. He has served as a tennis professional and coach at Wild Dunes Resort as well as personally in the greater Charleston area. He's spent time working with high-level juniors and has been a hitting partner for tennis professional players, including multiple grand slam champions.

He graduated from Clemson with a bachelor's degree in sports communication and is currently pursuing his master's of science in management.
