HIGH POINT, N.C. - The Charleston Southern baseball team fell to the High Point Panthers on Friday night by a 7-1 score. This was the first of a three-game series between the two teams.
The Panthers (14-31, 7-11 in conference) scored four runs in the fifth and three runs in the sixth against
Evan Truitt, who gave up all seven runs with two outs. He fell to 3-6 on the season.
Kaleb Hill started for the Bucs (20-22, 11-8 in conference) and threw 3.0 shutout innings, allowing two hits, four walks and a strikeout. He did not factor in the decision.
Neither team scored until the bottom of the fifth inning, until the Panthers took advantage of two walks, a double steal and a two-run home run. In the sixth inning, Truitt allowed two walks, an RBI double and a two-run home run to make it 7-0.
Charleston Southern got on the board in the top of the seventh inning, when the Panthers walked three batters and hit a batter. In the top of the ninth inning, the Bucs added one more run, as
James Jett hit a double, and
Jaylin Rae brought him in with an RBI single.
Devin MacWatters and
Ryan Daugherty pitched an inning of scoreless relief. Charleston Southern pitchers allowed a combined nine walks on Friday night.
