ROCK HILL, S.C. – Men's Cross Country competed at the 2024 NCAA Southeast Regionals on Friday morning in Rock Hill, South Carolina with Winthrop and the city serving as hosts of the meet. The Bucs placed 18
th among the 40 schools represented as they raced against everyone from South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia and Kentucky.
Caleb Kenyon was the top finisher for the Bucs with many of their runners staying close by each other the whole race as they jockeyed for position. Kenyon finished the race with a time of 31:56.1 for 77
th. Following behind him were
Martin Iriondo and
Jeff Wedding in 93
rd and 94
th with time of 32:18.9 and 32:19.4.
Zack Wedding and
Sam Waldin rounded out the team's top five at the race with finishes in 118
th and 124
th. Z. Wedding had a time of 32:40.1 while Waldin's was 32:46.4.
Closely behind this pair was
Christian Mariner who took 126
th at the race with a time of 32:49.9.
Zach Mickler was the final Buccaneer to cross the line as he ended at 33:17.7.
There were eight Big South schools who competed at the meet with CSU placing second among the teams. UNC Asheville was the top one among this group in 17
th and High Point was right behind CSU at 19
th.
George Couttie of Virginia Tech won the race with a time of 29:41.7. Virginia won the team title with a score of 79 while North Carolina took second with their score of 85.
The meet marks the end of the 2024 cross country season for the Buccaneers with them looking to get into full preparation for the indoor track & field season. Charleston Southern will open the winter with some of the team's top distance runners competing at the Sharon Colyear Danville Season Opener in Boston, Massachusetts.
