College of Charleston Wins Tuesday to Take Season Series from Charleston Southern

CHARLESTON – College of Charleston defeated Charleston Southern by a final score of 10-2 on Tuesday at Patriots Point. The victory gives the Cougars the season series over the Bucs as they won the final two of it after dropping the first one.

"The box score clearly tells the story," Head Coach Marc MacMillan said following the result. "There is nothing more that needs to be said about our performance. It is a loss in the 'L' column, but it is truly a loss if we do not learn from it. If we choose to learn from today then it becomes an opportunity to gain knowledge before we step back into conference play this Friday on the road."

The Cougars scratched their first runs across the plate in the second inning. They were able to load the bases with no outs and scored their first run off a wild pitch and a groundout to second scored the other run. College of Charleston notched their next run on a double in the third inning to get ahead 3-0. In the fifth, they added three more, making it 6-0.

The Buccaneers started to get back into the game in their half of the 6th inning. Sam Low led off with a hard-hit ball for a single to the third baseman. Brock Kuehler then came to the plate and sent a double to right center to score Low. Later in the inning, Chandler Tuupo had a double of his own to score Kuehler, giving CSU their second run of the day and bring them closer at 6-2.

The hosts continued to keep the pressure on the Buccaneers' pitchers, scoring more down the stretch to push the score to 10-2.

Charleston Southern had Brett Gastman have the start on the day, and he threw 4.0 innings. He allowed just a pair of hits but gave up three earned runs. Chandler Woolridge threw 0.1 and Dylan Matsuoka then had the next 0.2. Tyler Henshaw pitched for 1.1 with Christian Robb having 0.2. Lee Watson finished off the game throwing the final inning.

At the plate, Tuupo led the team with a pair of hits. Low and Kuehler each had one as well. Alex Urlaub drew the team's lone base on balls of the day.

Charleston Southern returns to the field for a Big South series this weekend. They will be making the drive to Spartanburg to take on USC Upstate (10-2) in one of their toughest matchups so far this year. The first pitch for the Friday game is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. at Harley Park.
