Blue Hose Clinch Series Victory Behind Big 8th Inning

CHARLESTON – The Buccaneers' weekend series continued to roll on Saturday evening as the two teams battled through a near two-hour rain delay restarting the game after the top of the first inning. Presbyterian won the game by a score of 10-7 to clinch the weekend with a game still to be played.
 
The Blue Hose scored a run in the top of the first inning on a wild pitch in a slight drizzle. Between the innings, the bottom fell out with the rain and put the teams into a delay as the Buccaneers sprinted out to tarp the infield and salvage it for a restart. They entered the delay at 5:17 p.m. and they stayed in it until 7:10 p.m.
 
Coming out of it, the Buccaneers wasted no time getting on the board as they took the lead in the bottom of the first in the restart. Chandler Tuupo had a two out single and Dakota Miller brought them both around to score on a home run to straight away center for his 9th of the season. Presbyterian tied it at two apiece in the second inning of a leadoff home run.
 
Sam Low had a sacrifice fly in the bottom half of the inning that scored Gavin Bogdanchik to give Charleston Southern the lead back at 3-2. Each of the team's starters then really started to lock in exchanging 0s for the next three innings.
 
Charleston Southern stretched out their lead to 5-2 with a BJ Banyon single followed by a sacrifice fly from Bogdanchik in the bottom of the 6th.
 
Presbyterian's offense and four defensive errors by Charleston Southern let the Blue Hose break loose and score eight runs over the final three innings to take their first lead since the restart with them now leading 10-5. For the Bucs in the 7th and 8th innings, each inning ended on a double play as they got runners on.
 
In the bottom of the 9th, the Bucs' Dakota Miller smashed a double down the left field line to score Sam Low and Cade Conway. The game ended with Pringle as the final out of the game with the final score standing at 10-7.
 
Charleston Southern used just two pitchers in the game. Nick Timpanelli turned in a terrific start as he threw a career-long 6.0 innings with a pair of earned runs to go with a walk and four hits allowed. Evan Truitt threw the final 3.0 innings giving up one earned run while seeing eight total score.
 
At the plate, Tuupo had a great day with a team-high of three hits. Conway, Miller and Low all had two hits while Banyon and Bogdanchik added one apiece. Miller finished the day with a team-high four RBIs and two runs scored.
 
The teams return to Nielsen Field @ CSU Ballpark for the series finale which is scheduled for 1:00 p.m., however could change due to potential inclement weather. The Buccaneers are going to be looking to avoid getting swept for the first time in league play this season. They have fallen in the first two games on three occasions this year and have taken the getaway game twice.
