CHARLESTON – Saturday afternoon, CSU Volleyball hosted the High Point Panthers for their second to last match of the 2025 regular season. High Point would defeat the Buccaneers in straight sets (25-23, 25-18, 26-24).
Coming into Saturday's afternoon match-up, Buc Nation was curious to see if their VolleyBucs could pull off an upset like the one that occurred last November when CSU defeated a HPU team that had won their previous 32 Big South matches.
In the first set of Saturday's match, Charleston Southern's first two kills would be recorded by the team's leader in the category this season, Skylar Yates. A CSU-run in the middle portion of the frame would bring the Bucs within two-points of the Panthers (15-13). Another CSU-run moments later would tie the set at 18-18. An Oliwia Durka kill would take the lead for the Bucs (23-22), but an HPU 3-0 run would stifle the Bucs' dreams of a set one lead.
Despite CSU taking the quick lead in set two, the Panthers would rattle off numerous three and four-point runs and would never relinquish the lead once they secured it at the 8-7 mark. One of HPU's final points would be a kill from their true-freshman setter, Remy Catojo. Catojo would lead all players in the assist column on Saturday with 38 dimes.
After going down by five points in the beginning of set three (15-10), the Bucs would string together a 5-0 run including kills by Faith Burch and Emily Struckmeyer. A four-point push by the Panthers would stretch the lead to 22-18, but a 4-0 response by the Bucs moments later would tie set three at 24. Although a set win was in sights for the Bucs, two back-to-back points for the Panthers would seal the victory (26-24).
