CHARLESTON – Charleston Southern claimed the series finale over High Point on Sunday by a final score of 4-3. The victory moves the Bucs to 7-8 in conference play as the season is in its final quarter.
 
High Point scored the first two runs of the game, tallying them off a pair of RBI singles. Both came in the second inning.
 
In the fourth, Charleston Southern scratched their first runs of the game across with Gavin Speirs hammering a two-run homer over the fence in right field. This tied the game at 2-2.
 
In the seventh, both teams scored their third runs of the game. The Panthers got theirs off a sacrifice bunt while the Bucs got theirs off a Garrison Barile RBI single through the right side.
 
In the eighth, Charleston Southern was able to take the lead off a sacrifice flyout from the bat of Nathan Martinez that scored Michael Rogers. This gave the Bucs a 4-3 lead which they preserved in the top of the ninth to get the win.
 
As a team, the Buccaneers finished with nine hits on the day with Martinez being the lone CSU player with multiple hits on the day. Speirs led the team in RBIs with two as Martinez and Barile had one apiece.
 
On the mound, Matt Gallant had the start and threw the first 5.0 innings without allowing an earned run to score. He gave up six hits and no walks. Hayden Henry threw 2.0 allowing one run while Drew Dawson had the final 2.0 frames, issuing just two walks and a hit. He picked up the decision for his first win of the spring.
 
Charleston Southern is back in action for a midweek contest at the College of Charleston on Tuesday. The first pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. from Patriots Point with the game to be available live on FloSports.
