Von Kapff Start Powers Bucs to 12-2 Victory at UNC Asheville on Friday

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – Charleston Southern claimed the series opener at UNC Asheville on Friday evening by a 12-2 final score. The Bucs improved to 8-8 in league action with the victory and remain tied for third in the league standings.
 
Charleston Southern jumped out to an early 5-0 lead after the first inning and a half. Tyler Wright grounded into a double play in the first but scored Kain Collins on the play. In the second, Lucas Pringle had an RBI double which was followed by Caden Wolfley forcing an error on the Bulldogs' centerfield which clear the bases when they were loaded.
 
In the second and the fourth, UNC Asheville was able to scrap their runs across on an RBI single and a wild pitch. This brought their deficit down to 5-2
 
After this, the Buccaneers went on to tally the final seven runs of the contest. Collins had an RBI triple, Wright had an RBI groundout and Alex Marot had an RBI double in the sixth. In the seventh, Blake Edgmon had an RBI double of his own. In the eighth, Marot had an RBI off a fielder's choice while Nathan Martinez collected one on an RBI single. The scoring was capped off with Edgmon getting a solo home run to left center to push their advantage to double digits.
 
As a team, Charleston Southern finished with 12 hits with six for extra bases and Wolfley led the squad with three as Collins, Edgmon and Garrison Barile each added two. Edgmon and Marot both had a pair of RBIs to pace the squad in the category.
 
Titus Won Kapff had the start and earned the victory to move to 5-4 on the year. He tossed 7.2 frames allowing a pair of earned runs to go with four hits and four walks. Brady Bickett had an out on the one batter he faced and Drew Brown had the ninth, keeping it scoreless while allowing a walk and hit.
 
The two teams will return to Greenwood Field tomorrow morning at 11 a.m. The first pitch was moved up due to potential inclement weather forecasted in the area. The game will be available live on ESPN+.
