Buccaneers Break School Record for Selections on Baseball All-Conference Lists

CHARLOTTE – The Big South announced the winners of their annual awards on Tuesday afternoon with the Buccaneers taking a record haul of winners from the list. In total, Charleston Southern had seven players earn recognition and four of them were named First-Team All-Conference, both marking school records. The lists were announced ahead of the Big South Championships which begin on Wednesday with #4 Charleston Southern to open the tournament that morning at 11 a.m. against #5 Radford at McCormick Field in Asheville, N.C. on ESPN+.
 
The four players making up the First-Team honorees from CSU were Alex Marot (UTL), Nathan Martinez (INF), Blake Edgmon (INF) and Kain Collins (OF). Matt Gallant (SP) was the lone Second-Team honoree. Lucas Pringle was selected as Honorable Mention All-Conference and to the All-Academic Team. Caden Wolfley rounded out the selections with a nod to the All-Freshman Team.
 
Marot joined the team from West Virginia this offseason. He spent the first half of the year as the starting left fielder and then moved to first base in the beginning of April. He ranks seventh in batting average (.339), sixth in runs scored (49), third in RBIs (51), ninth in OB % (.450) in the Big South with these totals ranking inside the top ten in a single season in school history. He tallied a season-high six RBIs at Longwood in the series opener, going 3-3 and reaching successfully on all six plate appearances.
 
Edgmon started in all 50 games this season, the only player to do so for the Bucs, all at third base. Overall, this year in the conference, he ranks third in batting average at .355, fourth in OBP at .466 and fifth in RBIs with 50. In conference play, he ranks seventh in batting average at .369, tenth in slugging percentage with .595, seventh in OBP at .471, eighth in RBIs with 25 and third in doubles with 11. He has his overall total in OBP and RBIs rank within the top ten in school history. He ended the regular season on a 12-game hit streak and had multiple hits in 15 conference games
 
Martinez has played and started in 46 games as the shortstop. In conference play, he leads the league in OBP with a .538 average, ranks third in batting average with a .390 mark and leads the league in walks. Overall, this year he ranks second in the league in on base percentage with a .470 average, which ranks third in school history for a single season. He is batting .325 overall to go with 40 runs scored and 27 RBIs. He has posted at least one hit in 21 games in conference play.
 
Collins played in 46 games and started in 41 as the centerfielder. He has stolen 27 bases which ranks second in school history and second in the Big South. He holds a batting average of .340 (6th), OBP of .460 (6th) and runs scored 49 (5th) with each of these ranking amongst the leaders in the league. In conference games, he is second in batting average at .398, sixth in OBP at .481, fourth in runs scored with 26, and second in stolen bases with 15. He has 12 games in conference play with multiple hits
 
Gallant started in all 12 appearances this season and holds a perfect 6-0 record with the team winning in all but one of his games started. He ranks tied for third in the conference in wins with his six on the year. He has an ERA of 5.43 and WHIP of 1.50 across his 54.2 innings of work. In conference play, he is 3-0 in his seven starts with an ERA of 5.19 and WHIP of 1.64 in 34.2 innings. He had back-to-back starts coming against USC Upstate and High Point in mid-April where he threw 6.0 and then 5.0, not allowing an earned run in either contest.
 
Pringle has played in 44 games and started in 43. He holds a batting average of .293, slugging percentage of .393 and on base percentage of .443. He has 41 runs scored and 31 RBIs on the year and has drawn 22 walks and 19 hit by pitches. He boasts a fielding percentage of .991 and threw out 10 runners trying to steal this season.
 
Wolfley redshirted last spring and has become a starting outfielder for the Bucs this year. He has swiped 17 bases on 22 attempts to rank 5th in the Big South in it. He has an OB % of .450 to be 9th in the league in the category. He holds a batting average of .315 and has scored 48 runs for 9th in the conference and drawn 35 walks.
