CHARLESTON – Charleston Southern volleyball closed out the Playa Bowls Invitational in dominant fashion on Saturday afternoon, sweeping Bethune-Cookman, 3-0 (26-24, 25-15, 25-15), inside Buccaneer Fieldhouse.
The Buccaneers improved to 6-4 on the season with the victory, while Bethune-Cookman fell to 2-6. CSU finished the three-match invitational with a 2-1 record.
The Bucs opened the match with a tightly contested first set, battling through 21 ties before closing out the frame, 26-24. Charleston Southern then carried its momentum into the second set, hitting a .282 while limiting the Wildcats to a .049 attack percentage in a 25-15 victory.
Charleston Southern saved its strongest offensive performance for the third set, recording 16 kills on just 26 attempts with only two errors for a .538 hitting percentage. The Bucs used a strong start to build a 10-4 advantage before eventually securing another 25-15 victory to complete the sweep.
Two VolleyBucs earned All-Tournament awards for their respective performances through the three-match weekend.
Brynn Minter was named the event's Best Freshman as the Seal Beach, California outside hitter posted a combined: 42 kills, .305 hitting percentage, 13 service aces, 26 digs and 55.0 total points through the Bucs' three matches.
Presley Morris received the event's Best Libero Award, posting: 45 digs, a .957 reception percentage and 10 assists through the three-day tournament.

Adeline Wieler recorded her 100th career dig in just her 10th college match. She posted 15 of those digs against BCU.

The Buccaneers finished the match with 49 kills and a .351 hitting percentage, while holding Bethune-Cookman to a .165 mark. CSU also held advantages in digs, 61-47, and total blocks, 5-1.

Brynn Minter led the Charleston Southern attack with 10 kills while hitting .389, adding four service aces and 12 digs for a team-high 14 points. Faith Burch also reached double figures with 10 kills while adding three total blocks and 12 points.

Jenna Kitchens contributed 10 kills while hitting .450, while Emma Bednarek finished with nine kills on 17 attempts for a .471 hitting percentage. Bednarek also added three points from the service line and one block.

Tristin Sutton directed the CSU offense with 24 assists and added four digs and a kill. Cara McLean recorded 17 assists.

Presley Morris added 16 digs, while Charleston Southern finished with 61 digs and five total blocks as a team.

The Bucs will enjoy a well-earned rest as they won't suit up again until Friday, September 18th. Charleston Southern will face Georgia State at 11:00 AM, followed by Montana State at 3:00 PM at the Mercer Invitational in Macon, Georgia. Neither of the neutral matches will be broadcast.
