Leanna McMillen started as an assistant athletic trainer with Charleston Southern in July 2022. In December of 2023, McMillen became the head trainer for the football team, overseeing all aspects of athletic training with the program.

Outside of her sport responsibilities, McMillen serves as a liaison for all the athletic trainers on staff to ensure that all practices and camps have proper medical coverage. In addition to this, she is a preceptor for the Athletic Training Education Program for the university.

Prior to arriving at Charleston Southern, McMillien was the athletic trainer for all 11 sports at Baptist Hill High School in Hollywood, S.C. for five seasons from 2018-2022.

McMillen graduated from West Liberty University in 2016 with her bachelors in athletic training where she was a member of the softball team. Following her graduation, she returned to her alma mater and received her Master of Arts in Education in 2018. While completing the degree, she served as an assistant coach for softball and athletic trainer for the Hilltoppers. In the summer of 2025, McMillen completed the Integrative Dry Needling Foundations Course for Neurological Dry Needling for Pain Management and Sports Rehabilitation.

Outside of collegiate athletics, she works medical for the Kiawah Marathon, Cooper River Bridge Run and Credit One Stadium Concerts. Additionally, she works with the Professional Bull Riding (PBR) when they host their events in Charleston. In her free time, she loves to spend time with her amazing dog, Grady, enjoys all types of outdoor recreation activities and is frequent in Irish communication systems.
