Six CSU players scored in double figures Saturday as the Bucs posted their largest victory in over 15 years, defeating the Ohio Christian Trailblazers of the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) 115-44 at CSU Field House.
Among the players reaching double figures were freshman forward Omar Carter (20 points), freshman point guard Jamarco Warren (17 points), sophomore forward Shawn Outen (16 points), sophomore forward Marquise Duvall (14 points), freshman guard Austin Johnson (12 points) and senior guard Terrance Grier (11 points). Grier, Duvall and Outen all set season highs by reaching double digits for the first time this season, while 16 points was enough for Outen to set a new career high on this night.
Each and every Buc would chip in on this night, however, as all 11 players that took the court for Barclay Radebaugh's squad scored points. Players that did not reach double figures contributed in other ways to the cause, as freshman point guard Tovi Bailey had seven assists (contributing to CSU's 22 assists on the night) while sophomore forward Quinton Goods paced the team with 14 rebounds.
Duvall joined Goods in double figures in rebounds with 10, earning the Columbia native the first double double of his CSU career. All-told, the Bucs out-rebounded the Trailblazers by a 30 rebound margin, 57 to 27.
The Bucs also outshot their NCCAA foes significantly, as CSU held a 60% to 23.7% field goal shooting advantage by game's end. The hot shooting started early, as Radebaugh's group raced out quickly from the gate in building a 13-0 lead. The team would not slow down for the remainder of the first half, as a 62-20 half time lead was sparked by Warren's 15 first half points and 14 OCU turnovers, which the Bucs converted into 19 points.
The CSU front court began to establish itself in the second half, mainly thanks to the play of Outen, who enabled CSU to hold a 24-2 advantage in the paint in the final 20 minutes. The Richmond native scored 14 second half points, which on its own would have been enough for a career high for the sophomore forward.
All told, the statistical dominance enabled the Bucs to emerge with a 71 point margin of victory at game's end, the team's largest victory since an 84 point win over Allen, 136-52, on December 11, 1992.
Tim Baker came off the bench to pace the Trailblazers in scoring with 12 points on four of nine shooting in the first ever game against a Division I opponent for Ohio Christian.
The Bucs will face a quick turnaround before their next game, at Blacksburg, Va. against the 8-6 Virginia Tech Hokies of the ACC on Monday, January 7, at 7:00 P.M.
