LEXINGTON, VA- The CSU Lady Bucs tied in thier match against the
Virginia Military Institute with a final score of 1-1, bringing the
Lady Bucs to 5-4-2, 1-1-1 in BSC play and VMI moved to 5-5-1, 1-0-1
in BSC play.
CSU would start the game on the defense as VMI's Amanda Berrios
would start the game with a header shot into the CSU goal giving
CSU goalkeeper, Alyssa Budros her first of 4 total saves for the
contest. CSU's Caitlin Wesnesky would answer with the challenge
with a shot of her own flying just high of the goal. It would be
the first of nine shots taken by the Lady Bucs before VMI would be
able to try another shot. CSU's Caitlin Wesnesky would heed her
first and second shot attempts of the first period in the sixth and
26th minutes of play, respectively, and Lindsey Trexler would
attempt two shots in the 18th and 30th minutes of play. Lady Buc
Briana Murphy would be heard on three seperate occasions with one
shot on goal. The first period would end with CSU outshooting VMI
11-4, and scoreless.
The beginning of the second period would start with CSU
determined to show something for their lost goals in the first
period. CSU's Briana Murphy would take the ball at the top of the
box from Caitlin Wesnesky, and beat VMI's goalkeeper, Beemer, with
a shot into the right side of the goal, giving CSU the leading
score of 1-0 in the 46th minute of play, less than two minutes into
the second period. The remainder of the second period would be a
back and forth battle between the two teams, with CSU dteremined to
hold off the Keydets, and VMI determined to reclaim their
home-field advantage.
CSU would continue to outshoot the Keydets in the second period
6-3, with a total of 21 shots for CSU and only 8 for VMI. The
shocker would come in the 87th minute of play when VMI's Olivia
Moore would recieve the ball from Alexi Staton and beat CSU's
goalkeeper Alyssa Budros in close to the goal to tie the game at
1-1 with less than three and half minutes to play in the game.
Regulation would end with Budross claiming another save in the 88th
minute of play and sending the contest into its first of two
overtimes.
The two overtimes would accumulate with neither team able to
pull ahead. CSU would take a total of four shot attempts in the
twenty minutes of play, and VMI would be held to only one. The
strong CSU defense was not enough to pull the Lady Bucs in front
without a goal from the offensive side of the field, and the
contest would end in two overtimes with a tie score of 1-1.
The CSU Lady Bucs will be back in action Monday, October 6 at
3pm against Longwood on their home field.
