Mason Earns Second Defensive Player of the Week Award of the Season

CHARLOTTE, N.C.  After securing her second shutout of the season and tying her career-high in saves, Charleston Southern goalkeeper Avery Mason was named the Big South Defensive Player of the Week for the second time this year.

Mason matched her career-high with seven saves in a 1-0 shutout win at UNC Asheville. The sophomore faced 16 shots overall, recording two saves in the first half and five in the second — including two following Charleston Southern's go-ahead goal in the 70th minute. Her seven saves were the most by a Big South goalkeeper in a shutout performance this past week.

The Andover, Kansas native is the only Big South player with multiple Defensive Player of the Week honors this season.

Also nominated for Defensive Player of the Week: Berni Wayland (Longwood), Jillian Silverstone (Radford) and Catarina Dantas (USC Upstate).
