Box score

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Charleston Southern went from the Big East to the ACC Thursday, when they traveled to Tallahassee to take on the Florida State Seminoles at the Donald L. Tucker Center. The Bucs struggled to keep up with the athletic play of FSU as they dropped a 71-48 contest to move back to the .500 mark. CSU now holds a 5-5 overall record and a 1-0 mark in the Big South while the Seminoles improved to 11-1 on the year.

The Bucs continued to receive big play from sophomore guard, Jamarco Warren, who had a game high 21 points on 7-14 shooting, including five threes. Kelvin Martin posted 7 points and 10 rebounds, 4 of which were on the offensive end. Freshman Joel Lamb also provided a spark off the bench with 9 points on 3-5 shooting.

CSU played tough on defense early, as both teams were at a stalemate in the first two minutes. FSU was on the board first with a three, but Martin responded with a jumper with 17 minutes on the clock. From there, the Seminoles went on a 13-5 run until a jumper from Warren put the score at 16-9. FSU extended their lead to as many as 16, but Warren ended the half with 6 straight points for a 36-26 score going into the locker room.

Warren had 11 points at the intermission, with help from Martin who had 6 points and 6 boards in the first stanza.

The Seminoles made up for the late surge from Warren, with six straight points of their own to start the second period. Warren had one of his five treys with 16:34 on the clock, but couldn't slow down FSU, as they extended their lead to 18. Knysas joined Warren to post another pair of baskets, only to be met by a 12-1 Seminole run. Lamb also provided a pair of threes late in the half, but it was too little too late. Austin Johnson recorded the final three points to end the game with a 71-48 score.

Florida State took advantage of their size down low, as they were led by Solomon Alabi with 16 points, 14 rebounds, and 6 blocks.

CSU had another tough shooting night, with a 32 percent effort from the field, to go along with shooting 36 percent from the line. The Bucs were able to hang with the Seminoles at times, but their 19 turnovers caught up with them in the end.

CSU will enjoy an extended Christmas break before returning to the court on December 29th. The Bucs will host another ACC member, Virginia Tech, at home in the North Charleston Coliseum for a 7 p.m. contest.
